Work in progress 2 : Pope Benedict XVI

2. Portrait of Pope Benedict XVI

This is an exemple of testing new media : Reynolds Markers Pinsocolor.

For this I begin with a quick pencil sketch.

After that, I am using the yellow marker. I choose this kind of product because of its brush shape.

A bit larger than Pitt Faber Castell artist pen that I had already tried.

The impression is good.

Then I go on with darker colors : orange, brown.

I draw on with red and pink.

After that it's time to take the eyes with two blue colors.

I finish the job with black marker.

Half an hour to realize these operations, then I scanned and applyed a Watercolor filter in Photoshop and added a pale cream background.

Pope Benedict XVI is ready now to fly in the USA !

Work in progress 1 : Silvio Berlusconi

1. Portrait of Silvio Berlusconi, Prime Minister of Italy

This is a new post for non definitive drawings.
I' m gonna try to post the various steps of caricatures. From the first study to the use of colours.

Above, the first take of Berlusconi, using two pencils : Pitt Graphite pure 2900 frm Faber Castell (Germany). A 3B and a 6B pencils. The paper is french Clairefontaine cream Sketch paper 90g.
The size : 14,8 x 21 cm.

Here's the second step, after scanning at 300 dpi, I import the drawing in Photoshop CS3. Then I create a sepia shade off background and I color the foreground with an harmonious tone.

Then, I use two Photoshop filters, Watercolor in the artistic filter group, and Maximum in the diverses filtergroup. Maybe it would be interesting to try something else with Corel Painter Effects.

Ulysse Merou's death

Who, the hell, is this guy ??

It is is Planet of the Apes principal character, less known as Ulysse Mérou, authoritatively performed by recently dead Charlton Heston.
But who was in mourning for Mérou ? - Nobody.

If everybody, in fact, has heard of Ben Hur's death, it's because of the eponymous film heroe played by Charlton Heston.

But does anyone remember that the complete name of Ben Hur was "Judas Ben Hur" ? (Sounds not so brilliant).

Let' s recall the mere Heston's parts : Ramon Miguel Vargas (Touch of evil), Chrysagon de la Cruz ( The War Lord), Brad Braden (The Greatest show on earth), Major Matt Lewis (55 days at Peking), Robert Neville (The Last Man on Earth), Alan Murdock (Airport 1975), Captain Matthew Garth (Midway), Detective Thorn (Soylent Green), Major Dundee (Major Dundee!), Rodrigue (El Cid), and of course, Moshe ( The Ten Commandments), General Charles Gordon (Khartoum), and many others.

They all contribute to shape each Charlton Heston role as a legend, who will now never die.
